Fallen Friends

Since our team was formed in 1997, we have lost 20 members to breast cancer. We remember them often and fondly in our conversations and our photo albums.

Most race festivals we attend have a breast cancer survivor race after which all the survivor boats converge on the water and perform a very moving and emotional pink carnation ceremony. As the spectators listen to a short tribute from the announcer, each paddler places a pink carnation on the water in memory of the men and women that have lost their lives to breast cancer.

Dragons Abreast remembers our fallen friends with  a memorial bench.

Team members and the families of members who we honour with this memorial, are invited to come to this quiet place and find comfort in knowing that our fallen friends are lovingly remembered.

Directions To Our Memorial Bench

The new memorial bench has been installed in Humber Bay Park West

To reach the site, turn west on Lakeshore at Park Lawn and proceed to the next street and turn left into the park. Turn left at the first parking lot. Go to the end of the parking area that is designated for large boats and trailers. The bench is situated near that end, on a rise facing the lake to the south. The bench can also be reached from the East Park by crossing the pedestrian bridge to the same site.
